Bent Tree Child Development Center opened it’s doors in 1991 in a one room school-house across the street from our current location. As we grew, we needed a larger space and the current building was designed as a purpose built center, just for us. The architect ensured that every safety feature was included for your children. Rooms were designed with our lower ratios in mind. The playgrounds are even divided with various activities in mind so that teachers and children always have a choice and it’s never the same thing day after day.
Our Developmental enrichment program for children ages 18 months through Kindergarten begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Throughout the morning program, the focus is center-based learning experiences. This afternoon is spent celebrating these experiences as children participate in activities that reinforce the new learning.
Inclusive of our full time program, extended care is offered before and after our daily classes. These extended hours are 7 – 9 a.m. and 3 – 6.30 p.m.
The assessment evaluates motor development, cognitive abilities, receptive and expressive language, independent skills, and social and emotional maturation. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled twice yearly and on an as-needed basis.
Considerations for groups or classes include: chronological age, emotional and social maturation and readiness for learning. The development of self-concept and feelings of worth are enhanced through positive guidance techniques and a stimulating and enriching program for the child.
The Pre-academic curriculum is center-based for children to freely explore their play environment through thematic subjects that spark creativity and individualization. Carefully planned multi-sensory experiences enhance the development and advancement of the whole child. Computers are available in all pre-school classrooms, offering the computer technology skills that will be essential for productivity in the upcoming century. Spanish is part of our daily curriculum offering pre-school children exposure to a second language. An outdoor learning environment is provided to facilitate creativity and freedom for large muscle development.
The development of creativity in the child is enhanced through our daily fine arts program. This program emphasizes multi-art media, and the value for the child to experience the “product” for adult judgment of success. Music experiences, rich with creativity, rhythm, and body movements are integrated into the daily program.
Vital to the success of the child’s school program is the involvement of the parents. Communication notebooks, daily conversations, children’s portfolios, and scheduled conferences all contribute to the parent and teacher working together for optimum development of each child.
Snacks and meals are planned by our dietetic consultant and offer healthy choices and appropriate selections for growing small children. Our menu will include fresh vegetables, fruits, and the quantity appropriate for each child. Family style serving encourages the children to actively participate with snacks and meals, and practice daily table and social etiquette.
