PARENT TESTIMONIAL

The last three years our expectations have been far exceeded by the amazing faculty and staff at Bent Tree.  We were looking for a place that wraps their arms around my daughter and prepares her emotionally and mentally for primary school.  In addition to the academic excellence and open court curriculum, they are an extremely humble organization that makes an effort to know each individual child and parent by name.

Dear Prospective Parent:

Selecting a school for your young child is a very important decision. For achievement of a child's maximum growth and development, the school environment must match the parental expectations and philosophies. Understanding that there are a variety of early education programs from which to choose, we have summarized some information that might be helpful for you regarding our school.

Bent Tree Child Development Center offers a professional and warm learning environment for young children ages 18 months through kindergarten in small group classes.

  • 􀂍An initial developmental evaluation will be completed, individually and in a group setting, for each child. To ensure a comfortable and happy placement for each child, determination of class placement will focus more emphasis on behavioral level of function (social and emotional maturity) than on academic abilities.
  • Our early learning program fosters consistent daily routines and schedules. Due to our program style, throughout the academic school year, required class start times are 8: 30 a.m. for Kindergarten, 9: 00 a.m. for Levels III & Pre-K, and 9: 30 a.m. for Levels I & II.
  • Parents and professional teachers work together to achieve shared goals for children. Regular and frequent two-way informal and formal communication is utilized daily and throughout the year with scheduled parent conferences and informative parent meetings.
  • Our school has a zero tolerance plan for violent or hurtful actions or words to others. Children will solve problems and resolve conflict through words to express their feelings and communication. In guiding children, we use positive praises and redirection to achieve desired behaviors. If discipline is necessary for an unwanted behavior, choices with natural consequences or time out will be implemented.
  • Children’s homerooms and class levels are determined every fall for the duration of one year.
  • During the year, children are occasionally merged out of their homerooms with other similar-aged children. These times of the year are during holidays and listed as non curriculum weeks on the school calendar.
  • Our program fosters age-appropriate independence for children to enhance and bolster self-esteem. Children are required to assist with all daily activities to their capability including: dressing, eating, toileting and proper social etiquette.
  • In consideration of the daily schedule of custodial events in the classrooms, children will be expected to do the following: drink liquids from a small open-top cup - “sippy” cups are not permitted, no longer needs immediate oral gratification for comfort - no pacifiers or bottles are permitted while at school, rests on a small cot for midday nap time, sits at a small table for eating, begins to use utensils to feed oneself, and has mastered independent toileting skills by the the preschool
Level III class. Pull-ups are not permitted (unless they have tabs) in any of our classes due to frustration and confusion for the child.
  • Teachers set verbal limits and boundaries as guidelines to elicit appropriate and safe behavior. Optimum performance for the child is noticed if home and school rules are consistent.
  • Children are able to separate comfortably from their families to a group classroom setting without excessive crying or emotional upset for extended periods of time. The staff and family can work together to smooth the transitions for this new adjustment, which should not exceed a two week period of time.
  • Public health laws set rules for children participating in a school environment. Parents will be expected to follow guidelines set for
    ill children.

Thank you for considering our school for your child. Whether you are beginning a formalized program outside of the home for the first time or selecting a new school, this can be a challenging time and we want to help. You can count on our expertise and educational background to support and guide you throughout your child’s early childhood journey.

Thank you,

Mary Barter
